Black and White Lily

The lily is a beautiful flower that is not diminished by black and white treatments.  When I desaturated the photo, the middle yellow converted to a beautiful, bright white.  Te flower seems to be stretching  out to grab all the sun it can.

It is cool in Dallas today.

Nikon D90 with Tamron 90.  1/800s at f/4, ISO200, Landscape Mode.  The photo was a little overexposed, so I recovered detail in Lightroom.  I used split toning to add a little sepia to the petals.

Purple Lily

I looked idiotic getting this shot.  It is handheld, on my knees and balancing precariously on some rocks.  I am off to Dallas today, I will check in on blogs tonight.

White Water Lily

These shots were simply not easy to get.  A considerable amount of reaching, stumbling and balancing had to be done.  Was it worth it?  You bet.  These things are gorgeous.  They are loud flowers and remind me of my childhood.  Growing up in Trinidad, the rhythm of life were loud and colorful.  The air was always full of laughter.  Looking at these beautiful flowers, how could you not feel anything but good?  And if it cost me a little sweat and a slight backache…c’est la vie.

Nikon D90 with Tamron 90.  1/320s at f/16, ISO200, Landscape mode.  I used a tripod for added stability but I discarded the tripod after this shot, it was simply too difficult.  In Lightroom, I adjusted the Landscape mode setting and the white balance.  I adjusted the light levels so that the flower was brighter against a dark background.  The pond was under tree cover but sunlight was dappled, in places bright and in others filtered.  I cropped and tilted the photo to make up for the tough angle I had to use.

I will be back to the pond soon.
