Garlic

With all of the vampire movies out, I thought I better protect my blog with some garlic.

Garlic for Vampires

Nikon D90 with Tamron 90.  1/2s at f/11, ISO160.  Photographed against a black background, lit by a large window and a 52 inch reflector.  In Lightroom, cropped slightly, increased clarity and contrast, decreased darks to get the background jet black.  White balance and camera profiles left untouched producing a cold, slightly blue/white tone.

Falling Apple

How to catch an apple in mid-fall?  Extensive flash setup?  All photos lie.

Falling Apple

Falling Apple

Nikon D90 with Tamron 90mm.  0.6s at f/11, ISO160, Normal mode.   Shot near the open window, black background, large gold reflector.  Of course, the apple isn’t really falling but that was the impression I had when I saw the photo.  It is the result of turning the apple until it looked unsupported and then cropping.  In Lightroom, I adjusted light levels and worked to get good white balance.  Auto white balance wanted the apple to be almost white.  I also adjusted the magenta balance on my camera profile towards the magenta end.  It has the effect of making the dark areas richer.

One more still life

Texture.  Peaches.  Texture, little fuzzy peach texture.  Black and white.  These were actually quite delicious when I was finished with them.  That is one of the bright spots of using fruits and vegetables as subjects.  Oh, the pepper from yesterday?  That ended up in my quesadillas last night.

Nikon D90 with Nikkor 50mm.  2s at f/11, ISO160, Normal mode, graduated sepia gel filter.  In Lightroom, desaturated and adjusted light levels.  Increased contrast and clarity, adjusted the color calibration.   Sharpened and exported to jpeg.

Red Pepper

Filed under: Nikkor 50 f/1.8, Nikon D90, Still Life, Vegetables — burstmode @ 8:10 am

Placed against a black background, light controlled but no flash.

Nikon D90 with Nikkor 50mm and graduated sepia gel filter.  2s at f/11, ISO160, Normal mode.  Used one small reflector with the silver side.

In Lightroom, adjusted white balance, adjusted light levels, converted to DX2mode1, increased clarity and contrast, increased red vibrance and decreased orange and yellow vibrance (which makes those colors a little darker).
