Falling Apple

How to catch an apple in mid-fall?  Extensive flash setup?  All photos lie.

Falling Apple

Falling Apple

Nikon D90 with Tamron 90mm.  0.6s at f/11, ISO160, Normal mode.   Shot near the open window, black background, large gold reflector.  Of course, the apple isn’t really falling but that was the impression I had when I saw the photo.  It is the result of turning the apple until it looked unsupported and then cropping.  In Lightroom, I adjusted light levels and worked to get good white balance.  Auto white balance wanted the apple to be almost white.  I also adjusted the magenta balance on my camera profile towards the magenta end.  It has the effect of making the dark areas richer.

One more still life

Texture.  Peaches.  Texture, little fuzzy peach texture.  Black and white.  These were actually quite delicious when I was finished with them.  That is one of the bright spots of using fruits and vegetables as subjects.  Oh, the pepper from yesterday?  That ended up in my quesadillas last night.

Nikon D90 with Nikkor 50mm.  2s at f/11, ISO160, Normal mode, graduated sepia gel filter.  In Lightroom, desaturated and adjusted light levels.  Increased contrast and clarity, adjusted the color calibration.   Sharpened and exported to jpeg.
